Last Thursday was a highlight in the Easingwold Club Calendar as almost 80 members joined in on the annual 'Run For Roger' in memory of our much loved and founding member Roger Nicolls. Groups set off from Crayke and Oulston running along the Foss Way route back to Easingwold. A bus was hired to take those joining in to the departure points and the runs were coordinated so everyone arrived back at the Market Square at around 8:10pm to a reception including Roger's family. The weather was very kind and the lovely evening was continued with food and drinks including a celebration cake in the George Hotel. A really enjoyable and social evening and great to see so many members old and new taking part.
As usual Saturday is parkrun day at ERC with 48 members taking part at various events around the country. Ben Jecock ran the Cieszyn parkrun in Poland, finishing 1st in 19:36. Five members were among the team of volunteers at Millfield ensuring the 238 taking part enjoyed a safe and smooth event on a lovely warm sunny Saturday morning.
On Sunday members were active in the continuing warm conditions at the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon and the Hardmoors White Horse events which all started and finished at the Sutton Bank visitor centre. In the Hardmoors Marathon Fergus McClanachan represented the club finishing in 5:20:15 while in the Half Marathon several members took part as follows - Sam Davies, Georgina Robinson, Debbie Pomfret, Cheryl McBroom, Hannah Hilton, Rachel Farrand and Linda Carruthers. The 10k saw Finn Pomfret home as 1st finisher with Sue McClanachan also taking part. Well done to all, the Hardmoors White Horse is a tough endeavour requiring a fair bit of ascent and descent as well as self navigation.
Over on the roads and streets of Leeds starting and finishing at Headingly stadium and on a route heading north and taking in Otley 4 ERC members were taking part. Well done to Dave Hull 3:17:27, Mark Leake 4:00:46, Josh Williams 4:37:50 and Jackie Shields 5:13:28. It was a really warm sunny day on what is one of the tougher road marathon courses. The quicker marathon finishers also found themselves among half marathon finishers giving an extra dimension in the last 3 miles or so of the Rob Burrow inspired event.
