Easingwold 10K

ROUTE DESCRIPTION
The 10km fully licenced and distance certified course can be described as undulating but certainly not hilly. A perfect challenge whether it’s your first or one hundred and first 10k. Run in an anticlockwise configuration the first half has more up than down and the second half more down than up – perfect for motivation and PBs. Easingwold lies on the junction of the Vale of York and Howardian Hills and this gives us a great place to hold a scenic and interesting race. You’ll need to keep focussed on an even effort and not worry so much about pace as that is usually the best way on courses like this.
As you leave the start line:
-
you will be cheered around the Market Square and its four pubs
-
pass the Medieval Butter Cross on your left and leave the Market Square onto the slight rise up Spring Street and onto Uppelby with its expansive verges and Georgian houses
-
the rise in elevation continues then drops a little to the Oulston Road and Back Lane crossroads
-
you’ll pass the 1km marker as you leave town and progress along Crayke Road and the 2km marker
-
it’s then a left turn into Rookery Lane and the race really gets going here as it’s a slight uphill and getting into the zone
-
the end of Rookery Lane sees a left turn and another slight drop away on Crayke Lane before rising again as you pass the halfway point
-
the drinks station here will provide hydration to keep you going all the way to the line
-
a sharp left at the crossroads and you can reflect on the work done and the fact that you are on the way back now to Easingwold
-
the road now is dropping away from you ever so slightly and you’ll feel that extra push that gravity gives as you enjoy the wide expansive views across the Vale of York
-
like all good race routes just after 8km is a little stinger of a climb, only short but you’ll need to stay strong as you crest the rise and then it really is all downhill as you enter the town again
-
right turn into Claypenny followed by a pleasant shared path across the town’s green space of Millfield which also hosts the town’s parkrun and junior parkrun
-
a few more turns now in the last 600 metres will see you back in the Market Square and crossing the finish line
-
you have completed Easingwold 10k! Go and collect your medal, get some water and check out your finishing time.
We hope you enjoy our course, we think it’s a cracker.
ON THE DAY
Plan your trip to Easingwold and why not come with friends – car sharing is encouraged. Parking is in various locations around the town, please follow our car parking marshal’s directions.
After arriving in the town you’ll want to make your way to the Market Square where the event is centred. Race HQ is The Galtres Centre, easily found and 200 metres from the start finish area. You’ll want to arrive in good time as number collection will be in full swing and if there are entries still remaining we will take on the day entries for which there is a small surcharge. There are plenty of toilets in the start and finish area and also the public toilets in the Marketplace.
Millfield Junior parkrun takes place at 9am in Millfield very close to the Market Square – maybe an opportunity for the younger members of your family to take part before they enjoy the activities at the Family fun day?
You’ll need to be at the start assembly area in good time and we’ll get the race under way at 10am after our pre-race announcements. Good luck!
