Chair's weekly update

It's been another busy period at ERC with lots going on and the recent hot weather adding to the mix of challenges. Last Tuesday was the final event at Wistow in the York and District Road Race league to decide all the final placings. Just the handicap and presentation to look forward to on Tuesday 22nd July, look out for Ed's email with the information and start times. Wistow was a warm evening with a surprising 425 finishers, more than ever before at the last event by some margin. Among the 425 were 37 in the Blue & Green of #teamERC headed home by Julian and Laura. Picture of most of #teamERC below, all the Wistow results are here

23 of our Ladies completed the series and 15 men. Well done to Joe for finishing in the top ten. In the age groups top 5 finishers were Megan (2nd W55) Pippa (3rd W65) Sally-Anne (4th W65) and (Julian 4th M40)

In the team events we managed 6th from 13 clubs in each team competition - Mens, Ladies and Masters.

All the series results can be seen here

Another brilliant Road Race League series with more ERC participation than ever, well done and do please join us at the presentation after the handicap to cheer on our Trophy winners.

Thursday evening in the warm conditions was base/recovery runs, thanks to the leaders who adjusted their plans to take in the conditions.

On Saturday the usual parkrun participation and volunteering took place at various venues - Trelissick, Huddersfield, Fulham Palace, Northallerton, New Earswick, Tyne Green, Bramshall Road, Donau Park (Austria) and of course Millfield. Results here for ERC members last Saturday.

Sunday was the eagerly anticipated Club Championship event at Ilkley Half Marathon with much trepidation on what the conditions would be like. I can confirm it was hot! The organisers had done a brilliant job preparing and informing entrants of precautions to be taken with extra water and other precautions. The recently imposed hosepipe ban curtailed the on course resident water sprays although I'm told there were water pistols and other devices being used. Emma will be producing the Club Championship results in the coming days, the organisers results are here A huge well done to all our 22 finishers. Special mention to Sally-Anne who finished first in her new age group, and to Joe who was 24th in 1:21:21, and a 2 min improvement over last year.

As a spectator apart from our brilliant #teamERC it was a privilege to see the Ladies Course record smashed by teamGB Runner Lauren McNeil in 1:12:15, very impressive.

Looking forward to this week we have more normal Yorkshire weather for S&C tonight at Alne as usual then Club Runs from the Galtres tomorrow evening, both at 6:30pm. Committee meeting is Wednesday and then Thursday we are at Alne Cricket Club, more details soon from Andy.

Also on Wednesday evening there is the penultimate novices 10k training and also the first of the two Easingwold 10k marshal briefings. Thanks to John and Jason for facilitating these.

Planning for the Easingwold 10k on the 27th is almost all done and participant information should be going out soon. Big thanks to all who have volunteered and entered - just over 40 places remain now and to sell out in our first year would be amazing.

Finally just a few days after our 10k on Thursday 31st July it's our annual 5km George Becton Scratch Race and entries are open. For those who have run the course before we have decided to reverse the loop for safety reasons and rather than going out on Thirsk Road with its narrow footpath we will go out on Husthwaite Road and back on the Thirsk Road footpath. The footpath is rather overgrown at the moment and a request has been made to NY Council by the Town Council to make it safely passable for us as well as the residents of the town.

The event will be chip timed and we will need volunteer marshals, please let me know if you can help.
