Chair's Easter roundup

Easter is a time of tradition and it’s no different at Easingwold Running Club. On Thursday evening after normal club group runs, members gathered in the Galtres Centre to take part in the annual Easter Egg Rolling competition. Always a nice social start to Easter at ERC and a test of skill, judgement and a lot of luck involved. The winner at the end of the contest was Rachel Farrand who kindly gave the huge chocolate egg she won to one of our younger members, James Throup. A great start to Easter.

Saturday as usual saw 40 members at various parkruns with Ben Jecock at Toyen in Norway being at the farthest flung. Closer to home 29 members participated at Millfield along with 9 members who were volunteering there.

Easter Sunday and it’s the traditional Helmsley 10k starting at the town's Sports Club and over a hilly course with mostly up in the first half and down in the second. The event was part of the Club Championship and 34 members took part with Joe Dodsworth and Helen Spring being first home in Easingwold colours. There were also age group wins for Sally-Anne Lardner, Pippa Hutton, Mike Tranter and Helen Spring. Special mention to Becky Carruthers and Maureen Medlar, both pinning on a race number for the first time in a while. The race is always well organised under ERC member Race Director Anna Jones and of course with it being Easter each finisher received more chocolate and an Easter Helmsley 10k mug.

Traditionally Easter Monday is a rest for most ERC runners but this year not for one of our members Megan Remmer who was over in Boston taking part in the famous Marathon. Boston is iconic and has been run for over 127 years, not even the recent atrocity was able to disrupt this record as the oldest Marathon in the world. Several members were tracking Megan on the race organisers app as she progressed from Hopkinton toward downtown Boston. Megan finished in a fantastic 3 hrs 49 mins, a new PB and reward for all the work she has put in qualifying, training and in the race itself.
