Update from the Chair

Apologies for the lack of updates during my little tour of Europe where I was fortunate to catch a couple of parkruns, Zuidpark (Netherlands) and Oberwald (Germany), run in three countries on one fairly short run at Shengen, run in stunning locations in Switzerland & Italy and also take in the Jungfrau Marathon as a spectator. Also great to see events like Tholthorpe club championship, the club treasure hunt and many other events going so well from afar.

Anyway back now and autumn is well and truly here and the hi-viz tops and head torches have been brought back into action as we go forward into darker nights.

First up it's a welcome to new members who have joined in the last couple of months - Kath Wood, Melanie Gough, Jon Cooper and welcome back to Tim Williams, Hayley Bergman and Paul Bergman. Great to have you all on board.

Last Saturday I joined 12 of our Leaders and Coaches on a First aid course at Brandsby Village Hall, new to some and a renewal for others. Leaders and Coaches in the club all have some level of First Aid training and carry First Aid kits on our club runs. Thanks to John for making the arrangements.

Sunday was Sutton on Forest 10k which always attracts a lot of members and is traditionally a club championship event. Well done to all who ran and a big thanks to Emma for continuing to provide the Championship updates as we get to the closing stages of this year's friendly but super competitive contest as always!

Autumn Marathon season has kicked off and for ERC Dave Cooke and Ben Jecock got us under way with great runs at the Loch Ness Marathon on Sunday. Dave says "Glorious weather, beautiful scenery and well organised, really, really enjoyed it from start to finish, think I may have caught the marathon bug" Well done to both. Let us know if you are running an Autumn Marathon and how you get on. I hear we have ERC representation at Chicago, New York, Yorkshire (York) Marathon, Porto and maybe others? Loch Ness Results

Coming up are some exciting events -

  • On Sunday 12th October is another Club Championship event at Grewelthorpe - details and entry here

  • The new lights for community use are complete at Millfield and will give us a magnificent and safe training venue for the dark nights. There will be a Grand Lights Turn on Event on the evening of Thursday 23rd October. The Lord Mayor and other community guests as well as representatives from the organisations who gave the financial backing will be present and it should be a great milestone in our 30th year.

  • Once the lights are on we are going to see how many laps we can run as a club and raise some funds for charity in memory of our greatly missed club member Karen Newton who we lost just a few weeks ago. I do hope for a big turnout - do come along and take part, walk, run or jog. Afterwards we will gather in the George Hotel and continue the celebration. More details to be circulated in the next few days, mark your calendar.

  • Our next parkrun awayday is on the 8th November and you can now vote where we go here

A huge thanks to the volunteers who do all the things to keep our club humming along, many of which are in the background but important nonetheless. We could always do with extra help and spread the load if you are able to help or know someone who can, get in touch. A few examples below-

Anyone with graphic design skills to help us with promotional material for both the club and 10k event

Social media marketing

Trainee Race directors - help us with our own Club events such as the Club XC, George Becton, Multi terrain race

Always room for more run helpers and maybe progress into leading

Club archives - update and keep the club records, past Club Championship results etc

Thanks

That's all for now, see you around, keep running.
