Hello all and welcome to another press release from your local Easingwold Running Club.
As we’re now approaching the end of May, there’s plenty to talk about. To say that “no one week is the same as the last” is quite fitting these days for ERC. The variety of training on offer, social occasions and events to take part in is ever changing. Each week, when we gather at The Galtres Centre in Easingwold, we’re normally welcoming another face to the ERC family, which is fantastic to see. The club at the time of writing, stands at 165 members strong.
In recent months, the club championship has been heating up and taking shape. All members of the club are invited to take part in our own mini-league, by competing in local events throughout the year. It makes no difference if you’re fast, slow or somewhere in between, it’s open to all and a great way to hit personal targets, keep fit and make new friends. I’ve said for a long time, when it comes to running, it’s “me versus me”. We’re all unique with different capabilities, so pushing yourself to better previous efforts is always a great gauge and incentive. Of course, I do have certain people I have my eye on within the club, trying my best to pip them at the post! Those folk will remain nameless, but if you’re reading this, you probably know who you are. Wink emoji!
The most recent event that formed part of our club championship was away in Pocklington. A hilly affair on a warm evening. This particular event was also part of the York and District Road Race League, a selection of races put on by local running clubs. 42 ERC members took part and there were some super efforts out there, with many reaching new heights of achievement. On Tuesday 27th May, it’s the turn of Easingwold Running Club to host. If you’re not part of the running community, why not come along to witness the melee in Millfield? In the build up to a 19:30 start, there will be in and around 500 people representing a host of local running clubs, limbering up and preparing for battle before they head out to complete a 10 kilometer loop via Crayke. Then not long after 20:00, the first of many will come home. It really is a sight to behold! All the best this year to Ed Duffield and his team of willing volunteers. Ed has taken over this year to organise the event from start to finish, taking the reins from Neil King, who ran the event expertly for several years prior to that. No pressure Ed!
Other events (club championship related or not) have been completed by ERC members, from the Thirsk 10 mile event in March, the Helmsley 10k on Easter Sunday to marathons at home and abroad. London at the end of April and even the prestigious Boston marathon in the USA!
Our regular club nights, Mondays Tuesdays and Thursdays have covered a whole mixture. Sessions have incorporated all types to get the best out of your body. Strength and Conditioning every Monday. A night to celebrate the life and legacy of Roger Nichols, a much loved and founder member. Social runs, running at a leisurely pace and having a good chat with those around you. Away nights also took place including a club favourite to Hovingham. The legendary Easter egg rolling night, with prizes on offer! On a very recent Thursday evening, the treasure trail came to town, organised by Claire and Andy Throup. A great triumph, with groups of 6 (split into pairs), careering around Easingwold, attempting to answer up to 86 questions in 45 minutes! That’s one question every 31 seconds! Safe to say no team completed the job lot. Again, prizes of offer for the winning team. My team didn’t pick up the win. Hang on, I’m spotting a familiar theme…
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading and sorry, no prizes on offer. Just to say, if you ever fancy coming to see what ERC is all about, find us online for more information and come along, it would be brilliant to see you. Don’t forget, the very first Easingwold 10k is with us at the end of July. Not just running, but loads of other fun activities to be had throughout the day and of course, Millfield Parkrun is here every Saturday morning. Run, walk, volunteer, cheer people round – it’s there for you! See you next time.
