The running season is really getting going at ERC with the first event of the York District Road Race League taking place at Tadcaster on Tuesday 29th April. The league is an annual series of six 10k road races with 750 competitors organised by clubs in the York area including ERC. A healthy contingent of 44 members made the trip on what was a warm evening and gave a good account of themselves. First in for the Club was Joe Dodsworth with a stunning PB and 8th place leading the men's team to a great 4th place and only just missing out on third. Laura Tuley was first woman home and there were strong age group places for Brendan Anglim & Pippa Hutton (3rd) Sally-Anne Lardner (4th) and Julian Ollive (5th) all of whom scored points for ERC in the Masters team competition. A great start to the series for ERC. The next event is at Pocklington on the 13th May followed by our own event here in Easingwold on the 27th May.
The event was also round 5 of the 20 event Club Championship. The 50 Championship first place points were taken by Brendan and Pippa with Helen Spring and Julian on 48 for 2nd and Sally-Anne and Neil King gaining 46 for third place.
Thursday evening saw the club taking in a club run away from base at Hovingham on a lovely evening on the mostly off road routes and then on Saturday the usual parkrun involvement with 44 members doing their 9am Saturday morning 5km at various locations around the country.
The bank holiday weekend had several races going ahead with ERC members active on Sunday. Bernie Wood headed over to Halifax to take on the Bluebell Trail 10 described as a 10.3 mile multi-terrain race through woodland, canal towpaths, trails, cobbled streets and hills. The route also included a refreshing river crossing. More locally was Kirbymoorside 10k and Brendan Anglim had a strong run to finish first M50 in 38:55. Over at Melmerby 10k Matt Jones, Karen Rayner, Cath Lumb and Stephen Daniel were representing ERC at the popular race.
