A brilliant second George Becton event and social afterwards last night. Before that though a few bits from the last week or so.
Last Thursday was an enjoyable base run on the lanes, bridle paths and footpaths around Huby. The leaders had put together a nice variety of routes in the dry and a little cooler conditions.
It's great to see our new members joining in and in addition to the tranche of new members welcomed in my last email it's welcome to Victoria Elbeck and John Pritchard. If you haven't seen it, John has written a great report on his experiences as one of the novice 10k group and on running the Easingwold 10k. You can see it on the Club Web site here.
The weekend as usual started with a parkrun for many many and as well as the contingent as normal at Millfield many members were either on holiday or visiting other parkruns. In the case of Natalie and Al Lunn it was a visit to Irchester where they joined the exclusive list of ERC members who have done the parkrun Alphabet. Well done to them and if you aren't familiar with this challenge it involves attending a parkrun beginning with each letter of the alphabet (except X as there are none) and does include at least one outside the UK as there are none beginning with a Z (yet). Last Saturday's list of ERC participants is here.
Sunday it was Farndale Hardmoors, well done to Sam Davies (1st Female) and Debbie Pomfrett in the half while in the 10k we were represented by Emma Hatfield and Finn Pomfret (2nd) well done to all. Results for all Hardmoors events are here
Tuesday night on a warm and pleasant evening witnessed a big turnout at Crayke with again lovely mostly off road routes put on by the hard working Run Leaders. Our esteemed former head coach Nigel even managed to find the only patch of mud in North Yorkshire to roll in! Picture of Green group headed by Natalie below.
The George Becton Handicap race carried on from the first Championship mass start event in setting new records. To be eligible for The George Becton Trophy participants had to run the first race and the results were used as the basis to set the start times last night. We were also able to welcome several who hadn't run the first race and were given a start time based on previous 5k times. Every one of the 60 timing chips was assigned to someone. First runners left the line at bang on 7pm with the rest of the field departing at various 30 second intervals. Huge thanks to all the volunteers who made the event go ahead safely and gave encouragement and support around the course. First over the line was Cath Skinner, a very popular winner who put in a brilliant run to add her name to the list of George Becton Trophy winners. Well done Cath. In second was Dave Cooke and third Jason Wheeler who preceded a stampede of runners down Tanpit to the line. Brilliant to see and the handicapper was happy with their work. The results can be seen here of all finishers and the George Becton Trophy results.
After the event a lovely Social event took place at The Olive Branch, great to see so many of you there.
Looking forward now and at the end of the month we have our 30th anniversary celebration event as shared by Andy with all the details (copied below). It's sure to be a great day of running and socialising, you can sign up here.

30th Birthday Event Details
Mark your calendars for Sunday, 31st August, because we're hosting a special 30k Team Relay Challenge at Millfields Park! This promises to be a fantastic blend of fun running and a lively social gathering for all our members, families, and friends.
Here's the lowdown on the 30k Challenge:
What: A 30k team relay, with each team member running 5k.
Where: Millfields Park, utilising the familiar parkrun laps.
When: Sunday 31st August
10:00 AM: Arrive for team registration and warm-ups.
10:30 AM: The challenge officially begins!
Teams: Squad of 6 people! (I'll put the teams together.)
The Goal: This isn't about speed! Teams will aim to complete the 30k in a total time as close to 3 hours as possible. Think strategic pacing – if one runner takes a bit longer, another can pick up the pace! You can use your Garmin, watch or even paper to track your legs. We're looking for continuous effort throughout, so keep those feet moving!
Recognition: The team that nails their timing best will be crowned our 30th Birthday Champions and win a fantastic prize!
Beyond the run, let's make it a true celebration!
While your teammates are out on the course, kick back, enjoy some refreshments, and cheer them on! We'll have a couple of gazebos and tables set up to create a relaxed picnic atmosphere. We encourage everyone to bring:
Delicious snacks and drinks to share
Your own chairs or picnic blankets for comfort
Balls, frisbees, or other games to enjoy in the park
It's the perfect opportunity to catch up, meet new faces, and celebrate our amazing club's journey. So bring your family, invite your friends, and let's make this a memorable 30th birthday bash!
