The London marathon last Sunday saw 4 of our members take part in the Worlds largest ever Marathon with 56,640 finishers. Sam Davies, Daisy Fletcher, Jane Maloney and Colin Fletcher all crossed the finish line on the mall on what was a warm day for running. For Jane it was her first ever Marathon having won the place in the club draw as all England Athletics affiliated clubs get places according to their size. Sam had gained a Championship start enabling her to start just behind the elites while for Colin and Daisy it was their 5th consecutive London.
All four were amazed by the number and sounds of people out on the streets supporting the runners from mile zero to 26, the noise was incredible. Well organised hydration and hose showers kept everyone going and all four had great runs and a wonderful experience. Sam was first over the line for ERC in 3:08:20 with Colin and Daisy next in 3:30:54 and 3:35:36, while Jane crossed the line in 4:56:52. Sam and Colin finished well up in their age categories in 38th and 30th. Well done to all four, tremendous running in the conditions.
Meanwhile also in warm conditions was the Manchester Marathon and ERC member Emma Atkinson crossed the Pennines to take part finishing in 4:11:48, very well done to Emma.
