Just a week ago, 35 ERC members were preparing to run the YDRRL Knavesmire 10k event organised by our friends at York Acorn. It's fair to say this is a bit of a marmite course, some of us love it (The Race of Truth) and some hate it. Anyway, it was good conditions and as usual at the 'mire produced some PB's and SB's (season bests). Special mention to Joe and Helen first in for ERC, Joe dipping under 36mins with a stunning 35:37. Teams were all the sevens, 7th male, female, and masters. Well done to everyone. The results are here and after 4 events the series is starting to take shape, the latest scores are here
Next up is Bugthorpe, look out for the details from Ed soon. While on the YDRRL, on Thursday evening after running Ed held a post event review meeting of the key organising team who did such a great job on our Easingwold event. The main takeaway was that although the race was a great success it was felt a move to closed roads would enhance the safety of the event and this was decided. Something to keep Ed occupied before next year :-) there may have to be some adjustments to the course to minimise disruption to residents and businesses.
Last Wednesday was the continuation of the 10k novices course which will be culminating in the Easingwold 10k on the 27th July, the course is well attended, well done to John and the leaders helping him.
Thursday it was our Beat the Clock event starting and finishing at Millfield and with the usual slick organisation by Andy. Over the years we have been doing this I have noticed the pacing gets better and better and so it proved again as the nearest to the 8:10pm arrival time was Alwyn by just two seconds with a lot of others close including Ed just a couple of steps in front. Great fun, well done everyone and thanks to Andy.
Parkrun day (formerly known as Saturday) as usual witnessed the usual involvement from both a volunteering perspective and participation. ERC was represented at 10 different parkruns mostly in the UK and one in Europe, report here
Meanwhile in Keswick Craig Gath was preparing to take on the ferocious Bob Graham round, a classic challenge and subject of a great running book 'Feet in the Clouds' which I'm sure many of you have read. It wasn't to be for Craig, with the unpredictable weather curtailing the attempt. As always when things don't go to plan you learn so much and I'm sure he'll take the experience on board and go again. Those of you who have read the book will remember it took the author several attempts to complete this epic.
A bit closer to home on Sunday was the Wainstones Hardmoors event with ERC represented in the half by Pippa, Debbie, Sally-Anne, Georgina and Sam. Well done to all, special mention to Sam 3rd overall and 1st Female while Sally-Anne took the F70 age group prize. Results are here
Also on Sunday Cheryl took a group on a recce of the new Easingwold 10k course in preparation for the 27th July closed roads event. This was a group who can't make this coming Sunday the 22nd when we will hold a recce commencing from outside the Post Office in the Market Place at 10am (meet 9:50)
Entries for the race continue to come in with just 180 places left of the 500, please keep on promoting the event, we do hope to sell out and don't forget this is a Championship event with great medal, trophies and prize money as well as lots of spot prizes based on your race number. Details here.
