Weekend of fun and fitness!
As regular readers might know, our running club meets every Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Galtres for our main ‘Club evening’. We do, however, have a few extra ‘meets’ on a more informal basis, which are worth noting.
Our race coordinator Colin Fletcher organises a ‘circuits’ style get together at Alne playing fields/tennis courts every other Monday and for quite a number of years now some of us have met up at 6 p.m. in the Galtres car park (Tuesdays) for the faster ‘Tapas’ group.
For nearly as long, also every Tuesday but at 7 p.m. Lynn Fawcett has been at the helm of a more ‘social’ running group.
They usually run in and around Easingwold but sometimes further afield and recently they headed off to Northumberland.
The following is a report from Lynn. It certainly sounds and looks (nice photos) as though they had a great weekend...
“WEEKEND OF FUN AND FITNESS”
“Recently a group of local women enjoyed a fitness outdoor weekend in Northumberland. All are members of the Easingwold Running Club and have regularly run together. Staying at Calico Bunk Barn near Amble, some members took part in the local 5K Park Run on the Saturday morning at Druridge Bay Country Park – a route that took them around a lovely lake. Then later, all ran a 7 mile route which included part of the Northumberland Coastal Path. After a lovely meal out at a local pub that evening, the next day was spent with a more relaxing coastal walk of 7 miles and a picnic lunch on the beach.
Great sunny weather and good companionship meant that everyone had a good time at the beautiful coast and countryside.
The weekend away has become an annual event organised by members of the club who run regularly on the Tuesday social running night which originated to help members who were ‘steady’ runners or who lacked confidence. All have benefited from this support and some have gone on to become much faster confident competitive runners”.
